The Energy Co-op installs the Borough's largest solar panel system
Bes Co-op has started work on the installation of the region’s largest solar panel system. After several months of careful planning the Co-op has started the installation of a 400 panel, 100 kilowatt, solar power system at Basingstoke College of Technology. The work started on schedule and to coincide with the Easter holidays.
Co-op installers arrived on site on Thursday to erect scaffolding and to take delivery of the first shipment of equipment. Worked continued over the bank holiday weekend.
On Tuesday morning the first of the 400 solar panels arrived and were safely unloaded and stored away. Installation of the supporting framework began on time. By Wednesday much of the supporting framework on roof 1 (of the four roofs to be used) had been installed and work started on a further two roofs.
Thursday saw a visit by Hampshire Fire & Rescue Services. Red Watch where invited to see how panels are installed and were delighted to be given an opportunity to see solar panels "up close and at first hand".
By Friday the first of the panels are installed and the site was inspected by Building Control inspectors from Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council.
